Les Kovacs

Les Kovacs is director of executive branch affairs in Washington, DC for United Launch Alliance headquartered in Denver, Colorado. In this role, Les is responsible for leading ULA’s interface with the White House, NASA, Departments of Commerce and Defense, and the Air Force in shaping policies affecting ULA’s business in general, and the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle Program in specific. The EELV program launches the nation’s most valuable national security and scientific payloads to earth orbit and interplanetary destinations. Prior to joining ULA, Les was an Air Force Space Operations Officer serving in a variety of ballistic missile warning roles and culminating with duty as a launch controller at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Upon retirement from the Air Force, Les was the Operations Manager for Orbital Science’s X-34 rocket plane, led multiple concept of operations efforts for launch vehicles to replace the Space Shuttle, as well as architectures for lunar and Martian surface habitation and exploration. Most recently, he was the launch site manager for Orbital’s Antares launch site at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility. Les received a bachelor of science degree from Regis University in Denver in 1987 and a master of science degree from the University of Southern California in 1990.
